Two Styles that I Just Don't Like.

There are a few looks/styles that I dislike greatly, and I feel the need to get couple of them out here.
So I decided to make an entry on "Two styles that I just don't like", and use myself as the example, since I don't want to be meaner than I already am, and go search for pictures on internet with the styles in question. I am not talking about hair and make-up right now, I'm talking about clothes alone.
I would like to highlight that these are MY opinions and I am not pointing at anyone specific, and if you disagree with my views and opinions, that's cool. If you agree with them, that's cool too.

I'm going to start with the lesser of the two evils. Let's go!

1. Tight, low-rise jeans with a short top/shirt.

I have to apologise immediately and say that I don't have tight, low-rise jeans myself. I do have skinny jeans (which I used for the photos), but they happen to be the right size for me, and are actually almost waist-high.
Now, when I say "tight" I mean: "Too small/tight for the person wearing them."

So here's me with my tight jeans and shortest tops, looking like an idiot.

I guess it doesn't look too bad in the picture, because (like I said) I buy clothes that actually fit me, and are not too small.
BUT THIS:

Pink line = the top's hem, Red line = how high the jeans usually are, and Cream line = imagine that being skin instead of jeans.

Is something I see surprisingly often, and it disturbs me.
First of all girls, I can see you bum crack. I don't like it, and it does not look good.
Secondly, your love handles will show.

Pointing out where the love handles are, and would be with tighter jeans.

There is a few easy ways to fix this problem (problem still being short tops and tight/small jeans causing unnecessary love handles and flashing bum cracks):
- Pull up the jeans or get bigger/higher ones.
- Get longer tops or pull the top down.

See? Fixed!

And in my opinion it looks immediately nicer.

2. Leggings with a short top/without shorts/skirts etc.

I actually had to go and buy leggings to do these photos because, as my closest friends know, I can't stand leggings, and think that they very rarely look good on anyone.

The most important thing I want to point out about leggings is:
Leggings are not trousers.
As a kid I used leggings as long-johns during winter UNDER my trousers. They are NOT trousers. I can't stress this enough.
When I see someone wearing leggings without anything on top of them, I immediately think "Oh, poor person. I guess they were in a hurry and forgot to put on the bottoms."

It's also extremely hard for me to take people seriously when they wear something like this.

Before anyone starts ranting to me about jeggings and other fashionable leggings, let me say: THIS, what you are seeing in the picture above, is what I see most often.
Not jeggings, not wet look leggings, not leather leggings, but normal, black leggings that are not particularly thick.

And the first problem with them?

Honey, I can see your bum and undies.

Which is really something I'd rather not see everyday.
Secondly: camel toes (these happen with jeggings, wet looks and leather leggings as well, believe me).
I did NOT want to take a photo of that because I just don't like it at all.
And still all the girls that insist wearing leggings with short tops keep sporting camel toes. Very Cool. NOT.

I understand that some people find leggings extremely comfortable and all that jazz, and that they like to wear them everywhere: gym, clubs, school etc.
In drama and dance I keep seeing people in leggings and, okay, that's cool, you can move in them easily and they don't get in the way, but. BUT. When we get onto the floor to stretch or do push ups... the amount of undies I've seen can't be counted with my fingers and toes.

Once again, there are some VERY easy solutions. Easiest being this:

Wear shorts on top of your leggings.

Looks so much better, and other people don't have to stare at your bum/camel toe/undies.
Or wear a skirt, or a top/dress that really (and I mean REALLY, not JUST) covers your bottom.
You wouldn't wear only tights, and a top, would you?

Spring is approaching fast and the sun is shining outside, and I just have the feeling that I'm going to start seeing these two styles a lot more soon... and it scares me.
So please girls, consider my points and think about it x)

Now I'm going to do some stretches so blog ya later~!

Normal Uni day vs. Normal Lazy day.

My second semester is pretty physical since I have dance and physical theatre modules, so I don't usually do "big" make-ups for those days, because I know I'll be sweating and smudging them anyway.
So instead I do this "basic make-up" for those days. Which has pretty much become my "Uni make-up" nowadays.
Not much colour or anything that could easily been seen if it smudges (except for the eyeliner). I don't even put mascara on.

This is pretty much what it looks like.

Ups and downs of this make-up:
+ it's quick to do
+ smugding doesn't happen that much, if at all
- it's not that light -> doesn't let skin breathe as much with foundation
- it can be a bit boring

Then I have lazy days. Those days when I just can't find energy to take out all the make-up tools and create something. If I have to go out, even to the closest shop, I might just put on some and mascara, and define my brows.

Which looks like this.

To list some ups and downs of this make-up:
+ it's light and hence good for the skin
+ easy to change if I'm suddenly called to a dinner or something
- boring
- makes me look like I haven't slept in days

So yeah, these have been my two main make-ups recently. Kinda boring, I know.

Oh, I just have to show you my new slippers before I run off to new challenges!

So cute and warm :3

Anyway, have a nice day, stay human and I'll blog ya later!

Sunday 5 February 2012

These things that inspire and please me.

One thing you should know about me... I specialise in a very specific type of security.
I'm just kidding, but really, you should know one thing about me, if you didn't already;

I love figure skating.

If I could BE a sports, I'd probably be figure skating. It's just so beautiful, elegant and inspirational, and I enjoy watching it.

For the first time ever I finally managed to go and SEE championships live.
My friend, and teammate, Annika flew all the way from Finland to accompany me to the European Figure Skating Championships in Sheffield.
Because we are (poor) students we couldn't go to see the whole thing, but we did buy tickets for all the days that felt the most important for us: Men and Ladies' free programmes (Saturday), and Gala (Sunday). On top of that I went to see Men's short programme and Pairs' free programme on Thursday.

It was amazing. I took a massive amount of photos (when I say massive, I mean over 15GB, but I haven't deleted all the bad ones yet), and I will be spamming some of those here. NOW.

Let me start with the top 3 of men, because I probably won't comment that much on their costumes and make-up x)

Evgeni Plushenko

This man. Is amazing. He's been on ice since the beginning of time and is still going strong.
Watching him on YouTube and TV is one thing, but seeing him on ice was just a completely new experience.
He also won gold in EC.

Artur Gachinski

Gachinski is a new face for me. It was the first time I saw him on ice (I seriously can't remember him from other competitions), but he was VERY good. He also shares the same coach, Alexei Mishin, with Plushenko, so that might explain why they are both so good :D Mishin also coached one of my ultimate favourites, Alexei Yagudin, who is also extremely good.
Gachinski won silver in EC.

Florent Amodio

I love Amodio to bits. It was love at first sight, the first time I saw him skate.
He is charismatic, talented and just so cute. There are some pictures of him and Stéphane Lambiel, who I also adore SO much, that cheer me up always.
Seeing him on ice was a big fangirl moment for me. Annika could prove that.
He won bronze in EC.

Amodio is so small compared to Plushenko and Gachinski :3

Another fangirl moment was when I got to talk to Kevin van der Perren who sadly enough had to withdraw from free programme because of an injury.
He is an amazing skater and meeting him was a big highlight of my trip. I hope to see him on ice again, despite his injury.

Now, let me get to the winning ladies... I'm gonna provide you with photos of the front and back of their costumes.

Carolina Kostner

I still don't know whether I like that costume or not :'D
It was VERY sparkly, camera couldn't really capture just HOW sparkly it was under the intelligent lights.
The most disturbing thing though is the fact that the costume covers the skates only partly. I prefer it when they cover the skates completely, or don't cover at all x)
Kostner's technique is always good. She didn't seem to make many mistakes in the championships, and both of her free programme was very, very good.
She won gold in EC.

Kiira Korpi

Kiira. Kiira, Kiira, Kiira.
She is just so beautiful that I can't help but adore her.
Usually her costumes are colourful, funky and short, so I was kinda surprised to see something like this :D It's pretty and elegant though, so I am not complaining!
I was very tempted to ask for a photo with her when she was close to us, but I chickened out. I regret it now.
She won silver in EC.

Elene Gedevanishvili

So tiny and cute :3 And what about that costume, huh? PRETTYYY.
It had a big ribbon on the back, but because of the bright lights it blended into the costume in the photo. I so want that as a dress! Maybe a bit longer though x)
Her programme was also amazing and her Gala performance was beautiful. She became one of my favourite female skaters after I saw her live.
She won bronze in EC.

Now I want to show couple costumes from the Gala that I really liked.

Maxine Yu

Apparently this girl is only 15 years, but she was already pretty, darn amazing. She performed at the Gala as she was obviously too young to enter the championships.
And that costume... it would make a beautiful bridesmaid or wedding dress if it was longer.
Imagine that dress, but longer, strapless, and with silver flowers.
Ah, I wouldn't mind wearing that at all.

Back of the costume had flowers as well.

Thanks to this costume I'm thinking about wedding dress designs again xD

Body envy. I has it.

Now this is what I meant with Korpi's colourful and funky costumes :D
Granted, this is from Gala so she was free to wear nearly whatever she wanted.
This costume fit the song perfectly, and Korpi looks so good with that hair and make-up in that costume.

Last but not least, I will leave you another picture of Korpi.

Pretty.

Well, blog ya later and stay human!
(Btw, I love spell check. People should use it more often.)

Friday 3 February 2012

Ooops. Resolution differences are always funny.

I was supposed to update on Wednesday, but since my Uni started again on Tuesday, I've been busy with getting used to lectures again and I completely forgot. I will try to do it this weekend.

The reason I am updating now is because I'm in the Uni library and randomly decided to check on my blog, and I noticed this:

Apparently I should make a bigger background :D

I might try to come up with a completely new theme and background for the blog, one that will actually fit bigger screens as well x)
I had to make a massive one for my tumblr as well (like 1500 wide) so I might do the same here.

Any suggestions on what my blog should look like?
Any prefered colours? Should I change the main colour or keep it blue?

I'm kinda tempted to go for a Hawaiian theme with hibiscus flowers and palm trees, but let's see :3

Blog to ya later, and stay human!
